Music Fun - Let’s Learn!

Cultural Songs!

We live in an amazing country that is not only diverse in geography but culture and music. We are going to spend some time over the next 2 weeks exploring songs from the Maritimes on the east coast of Canada.

I’se the B’y

Songs are used to reflect not only the local culture, but also historically relevant objects from the time period. Watch the video below to notice how the symbols of this song truly come to life. You will have a much deeper understanding of the lyrics!

Now it’s your turn! Sing along with Great Big Sea with this Karaoke version. See if you can add some of the jig dance moves while you sing the chorus!

Sailor Went to Sea, Sea, Sea

Remember the clapping pattern we learned with Miss Lucy last week?  Here’s a new song to learn with a few changes!

Not sure of the lyrics? You can find them here with this karaoke version. Follow the piano’s melody as you read the words!

Drama Fun - Night at the Museum!

This week, we'd love for you to play “Night at the Museum” with your family!

How to play:

*1 person is the Janitor - The Janitor's goal is to catch people moving in the museum.

*Everyone else is a museum statue.  If you are a statue in the museum, you need to choose someone/something that you would commonly see in a museum (dinosaur, animal, historical character).  When the janitor isn't looking, you have to try to move around the room in character.

* The janitor will move slowly around the room, pointing his/her flashlight at the statues. If s/he shines the flashlight on someone and that student moves/laughs/etc., s/he will have to go to the designated area and do 5 jumping jacks (or a consequence of your choice) to get back into the game.

*Don’t forget to be sneaky when moving around.  You do not want the janitor to hear you moving!
