YOU can use the ARTS to COMMUNICATE with OTHERS What does the word "communicate" mean to you as an artist?"Think back to some of the "Art of Storytelling" pieces we have viewed this year. Here is what we discovered: *Artist engaged multiple senses (sight, sound, etc.) *Artist evoked empathy and feeling through a personal connection *We are connected through SHARED Stories/Experiences *The message can be inspired by your own story or by someone else's story

If I draw a picture but I copy it exactly from the original first picture, is that being creative? If I try to sing a song and make it sound exactly the same as the one on the radio is that being creative? If someone gives me a colouring page and I colour it nicely is that being creative?"No. Our goal is to create something original or new using our own ideas. Maybe we start with a song or picture that someone else made, but we change something about it to make it sound or look different in some way. The tricky part is that no one else can tell you exactly how to be creative because it has to come from your ideas. Creativity is NOT just a PRODUCT. It's a PROCESS.

What ART DISCIPLINES are you GENIUS at? How can you naturally merge your talents with your interests to COMMUNICATE a MESSAGE?1) Everyone is good at something! What is your genius? Check out this vintage Canadian commercial to get you thinking. 2) Looking at all the different disciplines listed on the image above, brainstorm the artistic or creative activities you would like to EXPLORE in your showcase piece. Try to go deeper by listing specific planning details. For example, instead of simply writing MUSIC you might want to write play a song from the radio on my homemade ukulele. Jot these down so that you can revisit them over the coming month! 3) Watching the video below helps us to NOTICE where an artist's inspiration can originate, the questions they ask, and who they seek help from.
